Official on possible date of Kosovo talks

19 September 2010

Kosovo Ministry official Oliver Ivanović says a rough deadline for talks between Belgrade and Priština might be known after the current sessions of the UN GA.
Ivanović said that "the upcoming event in New York should be taken advantage of to set the deadline for starting negotiations on Kosovo's status.”

Ivanović added that dialogue between the interested parties should begin as soon as possible, since 2011 is an election year in Kosovo and the election campaign "will mean extremely narrowed room for dialogue".

Ivanović stated that negotiations and dialogue were in the best interest of Kosovo Albanians too, since no foreign capital would be invested in the province while Kosovo remained a volatile region.

Serbian President Boris Tadić and a Serbian state delegation will be visiting New York for the 65th session of the UN General Assembly, September 20-25.
